Aam Aadmi Party Punjab condemns attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Lauds Punjab Police for swift action

Chandigarh, December 4, 2024: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab strongly condemns the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal. AAP Punjab President Aman Arora termed the incident as highly unfortunate and reiterated the party's commitment to maintaining peace and law and order in the state.

Expressing his gratitude to the Punjab Police, Mr. Arora commended their alertness and swift action in apprehending the assailant who fired at Mr. Badal. He remarked, "This could have been a grave mishap, but thanks to the Punjab Police's proactive approach and diligence, a major tragedy was averted. I appreciate the efforts of the officers who identified the threat on the spot and stopped him."

Minister Arora further highlighted that Darbar Sahib, being a sacred site, presents unique challenges for security measures as frisking and formal checks are not feasible. To address these challenges, approximately 200 police personnel in civil outfits were deployed in the area to monitor and safeguard the security of Sukhbir Badal and other leaders. The suspect, Narain Singh Chaura, who has a history of criminal cases, was under surveillance, and the police managed to capture him immediately after his attempt to attack. The weapon used in the incident was also recovered.

AAP Punjab assured the people that anyone attempting to disrupt peace in the state will face stringent action. "Punjab is a state of harmony and no one will be allowed to disturb its peace. The Punjab Police is capable and committed to ensuring this," said Arora.
Regarding the SAD's demand for further inquiries, including a judicial or CBI investigation, Arora stated that while such demands are their right, there appears to be no ambiguity in this case due to the availability of clear evidence, including video footage and the recovery of the weapon. He added, "The police have arrested the accused, and if any links or conspiracies are uncovered during the investigation, the Punjab Police will ensure strict action against all those involved."

Arora assured the public that the investigation will be thorough, and if any other individuals are found to be connected with the attack, they will be identified and prosecuted. He said, "The Punjab Police is competent to handle this case and will uncover the truth behind this incident." AAP Punjab also issued a strong warning to anyone planning similar acts, emphasizing that such heinous attempts will be dealt with firmly and swiftly.

AAP Punjab senior leader and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema also condemned the attack on Sukhbir Badal and praised the Punjab Police for preventing the incident. He stated that strict action will be taken against all those involved in this incident. No one will be spared, regardless of who they are.

He further added that the police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Anyone found guilty during the investigation will be given the strictest punishment so that no one dares to carry out such incidents in the future.

Speaking on the matter, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang stated, “Such shameful and deplorable acts have no place in a civilized society, let alone at a sacred site like Darbar Sahib. Anyone who resorts to such heinous actions at the holy premises of Guru Sahib cannot be called a true Sikh.” Kang reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding peace and harmony in Punjab and warned against any attempts to disrupt it.

Praising the swift response of the Punjab Police, Kang remarked, “The alertness displayed by the police prevented this despicable act from escalating further. As informed by the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, over 200 plainclothes personnel were strategically deployed based on intelligence inputs. Their vigilance ensured the immediate apprehension of the perpetrator, who will now face the strictest legal action.” Kang emphasized that Darbar Sahib is a place of devotion and peace, and any attempt to harm the sanctity or create unrest will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
