Ludhiana, April 12, 2015: The Clean and Green Ludhiana Team of Aam Aadmi Party Ludhiana today started its “Campaign against Pollution of Water Bodies”  at the Gill Bridge, Gill Road  on Sidhwan Canal.
The Aam Aadmi Volunteers could be seen at the Sidhwan Canal assisting its cleaning as well creating awareness against the different causes of Pollution of the Water Bodies and appealing to the people to help reduce this pollution. Carrying colourful Placards and wearing their signature caps, the Aam Aadmi Party Volunteers could be fervently seen explaining to the passersby and enlisting them to this noble cause.
According to Col. (retd) C. M. Lakhanpal, the co-ordinator for this Project, “We started this awareness campaign today at the Sidhwan Canal. We are planning to take this campaign to the Buddha Dariya and finally the River Satluj with the help of Aam Aadmi Party volunteers and environmental experts, so that the water bodies in this region can be saved from the monstrous pollution they are suffering which is the main cause of rise of cancer in this region. The entire water system including the canals are so highly polluted that almost all aquatic life has vanished. The Buddha Dariya is now the “Sorrow of Ludhiana” and if no immediate steps are taken and the situation continues it will lead to a disaster of unimaginable proportions. It is high time the Government and Administration wake up to the seriousness of the issue and take immediate and concrete steps to stop the pollution in these water bodies”.
The Aam Aadmi Party also held membership camps at different places in the city today. Early morning a membership drive was held at Rakh Bagh and then at Samrala Chowk, Shimlapuri and Gill Road in which a large number of citizens were enrolled as new members of the Aam Aadmi Party.
