Chandigarh, August 24, 2024: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly criticized opposition parties over the Amritsar NRI firing case, accusing them of politicizing a family dispute and deliberately linking the incident to the state's law and order situation.
AAP Punjab senior spokesperson Neel Garg stated that the family of the NRI man has cleared that the attack was carried out by his ex-wife's family, making it a personal matter rather than a political one. Garg lamented that many opposition leaders are exploiting this situation for political gain.
Garg noted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed the DGP to take strict action against the culprits, ensuring no one is spared. The police are investigating according to CM's instructions.
Garg also criticized the Akali Dal, recalling that during the Badal government, an ASI was martyred in Amritsar while protecting his daughter's honor. He alleged that the molesters were affiliated with the Akali Dal. Additionally, Garg questioned the BJP's silence on recent issues, such as an MLA being shot in Haryana and a Dalit man being tortured in Rae Bareli, UP, for requesting his wages.
Garg pointed out that data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) indicates that Punjab's law and order situation is better compared to BJP-ruled and other neighboring states. He claimed that law and order in Punjab has improved under the Mann government compared to previous administrations, suggesting that the opposition's goal is solely to defame the current government.
