About Rs.75 crore public facilities damaged in Kangra district due to heavy rain: DC 

Dharamshala, July 10, 2023: Due to the heavy rain that has been going on for the last four days, public facilities worth about Rs 75 crore have been damaged in Kangra district so far. District Collector Kangra Dr. Nipun Jindal told this while addressing the press here today after the meeting with Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu through video conference from Nadaun.

The Deputy Commissioner said that so far the Public Works Department has suffered a loss of about Rs 31 crore in the district. He informed that till July 9, 66 public works roads were damaged or blocked due to landslides or tree felling, out of which 63 roads have been restored, in addition to this, about 14 more roads have been blocked in the district today. He said that if the weather remains favorable, all these roads  would be restored in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The District Collector said that a total of 231 schemes of the Jal Shakti Department have been damaged in the district, due to which the cost of the loss to the department has been estimated at about Rs 40 crore. Out of these, 212 schemes have been restored by the department. The remaining schemes will also be rectified in the next 24 hours if the weather permits .

Dr. Nipun Jindal told that during this period, the electricity board has suffered a loss of about 19 lakhs in the district, in which 212 transformers have been damaged, out of which 169 have been repaired by the department and the remaining 43 will also be repaired before the next 24 hours.

Dr. Nipun Jindal said that due to the rains in the district in the last few days, 4 kutcha houses were completely damaged. On the other hand, 22 kutcha and 10 pucca houses have been partially damaged. He said that immediate relief has been provided to the affected by the administration.

Dr Jindal said  that instructions have been given to the revenue officials in the district to provide immediate relief to the affected people with immediate effect in case of any loss in the event of heavy rain.

He advised the public to stay away from rivers and drains and in case of emergency ,immediately contact the toll free number 1077 of the District Disaster Management Center . He said that disaster management centers are operational round the clock in all the sub-divisions including the district headquarters.

He  urged people not to travel unnecessarily during heavy rains and stay at safe places and not take any kind of risk.
