ADAM Gilchrist bids adieu to IPL and take first wicket in competitive cricket as souvenir

Dharamsala, May 18, 2013: The Australian player and captain of the Kings XI Punjab announces his retirement from IPL, however he will keep on  playing  the Caribbean T20 league.

Kings XI Punjab beat Mumbai Indians by 50 runs at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday in their last league encounter of IPL-6 of 2013 to end their campaign on a winning note. The team could not enter the play off stage and also lost their agile captain Adam, who announced retirement from IPL.

The Kings XI captain will however, play the Caribbean T20 league.

Gilchrist not only walked away with a win against the table-toppers of IPL 2013 Mumbai but also claimed a wicket to his name.

The Australian great bowled off-spin during the last over of the match already knowing that his team has won. Harbhajan Singh decided to make the most of the rookie bowler's first ball and slogged one-handed but the ball went straight to Gurkeerat Singh's hand at long-on. The Australian celebrated his first the wicket in cricket with a quick leap and a nice style of dance.

Adam Gilchrist said, “I have developed a friendly bond with the members of Kings team, it is really sad to leave them but I have some commitment towards my family, my children. I will not come back for IPL now.”

In another reply to a reporters’ query he said,  “Dharamsala is a lovely place I shall keep on visiting this place as I love it.”

He said that his first wicket is the souvenir his wife, who was present in the stadium today.
