Ludhiana, November 7, 2014: Supreet Singh Gulati, vice chairman of District level review committee cum Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Ludhiana, has warned that if any bank official demands bribe from any applicant in lieu of clearing of bank loan, he would ask the Vigilance Department to register a case against the erring bank official. He said that he has received some complaints where the applicants were harassed for the clearance of loan, which is wrong.

He also directed the bank officials to make sure that the farmers and needy be provided loan on priority basis and without any delay.

Gulati was chairing a quarterly meeting of Lead Bank at Bachat Bhawan, here today. He said that if any bank or its official is found indulging in dillydallying tactics for clearance of loan, departmental action would be taken against him. He said that the banks should open more branches in rural areas so that people residing there can avail of financial benefits.

He also directed Lead Bank manager Manjit Singh Jaggi to provide him details of banks, who have granted less amount of loan to weaker sections of society, whereas their target was more. He said that after seeing the details, he would write for initiating departmental action against such erring officials.

Gulati directed the bank officials to make sure that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is successful in the district. He said that the survey regarding opening of bank accounts under this Yojana is near completion but he has come to know that the bank accounts were being opened at a slower pace. He directed the bank staff to go home to home for opening of bank accounts and complete the process by November 15, 2014. He said that under the first phase, only one bank account is being opened in each household.

It was observed that several bank officials skipped the meeting and this was taken seriously by the ADC (D) Supreet Singh Gulati, who asked his staff to write to their superiors for departmental action.
