ADC felicitates septuagenarian SHG member for motivating several young women at Ludhiana
Ludhiana, October 7, 2021: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Amit Kumar Panchal on Thursday honoured a 74-year-old Self Help Group member Amarjeet Kaur of Paddi village for turning her crafting hobbies into livelihood opportunity and motivating several young women of the village.
Lauding her zeal and commitment, Panchal said that Kaur has proved that age is just a number and she is still full of youthfulness and failed many young ladies. Handing her a letter of appreciation and requesting her support to train several ladies, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) said that experienced and motivated ladies like Kaur are an asset to the National Rural Livelihood Mission and administration would identify many such women, recognize them and do our best to support their dreams.
Coming from a very humble background, Amarjeet Kaur is a mother of 5 children. Her husband used to work as a daily wage worker and the same continue to be a source of income for her family.
Kaur said that people used to give her raw material through which she used to make a nice looking decorative item out of it and hand it over to them without taking any money in return as it was her hobby.
But later she become part of Butta Aajeevika Self Help Group (SHG) at the village consisting 10 members, all between 23 to 74 years. The SHG, recently formalized, mainly produces a variety of handicraft products such as woolen based pillow covers, flower pots, showpieces and paper mashed items.
Assistant Commissioner (UT) Dr Harjinder Singh, and District Development Fellow Piyush Goel said that self-help group members were called to plan for the mega Diwali Carnival, involving SHGs, NGOs and NCLP students across the district to promote local handmade products. The focus of this carnival is to support budding entrepreneurs by providing a platform, especially the needy.
