Administration hires private firm to conduct dog sterilization in Hasanpur
The Ludhiana administration has tied up with a private firm associated with the Local Municipal Corporation to conduct sterilization of stray dogs in Hasanpur village on emergency basis. The administration will compensate the company, which is already operating in Ludhiana corporation area, as per existing terms and conditions. All action is being taken according to the standard operating procedures of Animal Birth Control.
Ludhiana, January 14, 2025: The Ludhiana administration has tied up with a private firm associated with the Local Municipal Corporation to conduct sterilization of stray dogs in Hasanpur village on emergency basis. The administration will compensate the company, which is already operating in Ludhiana corporation area, as per existing terms and conditions. All action is being taken according to the standard operating procedures of Animal Birth Control.
The Municipal Committees under administration will also issue tenders for the sterilization of stray dogs in the rural areas of district this week.
During a meeting with officials from various departments on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal emphasized that the sterilization project aims to control the canine population and reduce the incidence of dog bites. The private firm that is associated with Local Municipal Corporation will start sterilization of stray dogs in Hasanpur village, on immediate basis today itself. He added that the BDPO along with Deputy Director Animal Husbandry will be nodal officer of the project and will ensure effective implementation of the project.
Meanwhile, the other Municipal Committees will float tenders this week and the work will be awarded to a suitable firm that can efficiently carry out sterilizations in accordance with the guidelines set by the Animal Welfare Board of India. The selected firm will be required to maintain thorough records of each sterilized dog to ensure transparency in its operations. The said firms would also provide services in rural areas on payment basis.
Jorwal also stated that a committee will be established in each Municipal Committee to oversee the work being carried out by the chosen firm.
Additional Deputy Commissioners Amarjit Bains, Rohit Gupta, Chief Minister Field Officer Kritika Goyal, SDMs Jasleen Kaur, Poonampreet Kaur, and others were also present at the meeting.
