Ludhiana, March 27, 2024: As a part of the on-going Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, the district administration on Wednesday carried out various awareness activities to educate people, especially the youth, on their voting rights for the upcoming general elections.
Seminars were held at Government College Machiwara Sahib, Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Adarsh School Noorwala Road, and Shanti Vidya Mandir. In addition, other teams carried out door-to-door awareness activities in the Ludhiana South constituency.
District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney said that under the SVEEP program, the administration is making earnest efforts to educate people, particularly the youth, on how to enroll as voters and exercise their franchise on voting day, which is June 1. She emphasized that democracy can be successful only if all stakeholders, especially young voters, participate in the poll process with full enthusiasm.
Sawhney stated that such initiatives can play a pivotal role in making people/youth aware of their democratic rights. Apart from strengthening the democratic process, this would also ensure the active participation of youths. She also expressed hope that the voting percentage will exceed 70% this time.
