To promote rural self-help groups, the district administration has organized a three-day Diwali mela at the Mini Secretariat in Ludhiana, starting from today. The self-help groups will be selling handmade products related to the Diwali festival.
Ludhiana, October 28, 2024: To promote rural self-help groups, the district administration has organized a three-day Diwali mela at the Mini Secretariat in Ludhiana, starting from today. The self-help groups will be selling handmade products related to the Diwali festival.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jitendra Jorwal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC Development) Dr. Harjinder Bedi visited all the stalls set up by the self-help groups and interacted with the members.
Jorwal mentioned that the mela, which will run until October 30, will feature handmade products such as lamps, candles, kurtas, masks, soft toys, warm clothes, and Punjabi juttis, as well as honey, organic pulses, soaps, and spices. He noted that under the PSLRM scheme, self-help groups from various villages in the Ludhiana district have set up stalls at the event.
The Deputy Commissioner assured all possible support, particularly for the betterment and upliftment of women, through the organization of self-help groups and support for their livelihood options and initiatives. He emphasized the importance of training SHG members in various livelihood sectors, including horticulture, clothing, tailoring, and agricultural and allied activities.
During the interaction with the Deputy Commissioner, the members of the self-help groups shared their ideas and feedback.
