Ludhiana, October 24, 2024: The district administration organized an awareness session on Thursday at Bachat Bhawan to raise awareness about the underground natural gas pipelines in the surrounding areas, along with the dangers associated with uninformed excavation activities. This initiative highlighted the importance of safety and vigilance to prevent potential hazards and ensure the well-being of the local community.

During the discussions, awareness was raised about the natural gas pipelines in the area and the movement routes for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) used for transporting natural gas. It was emphasized that before initiating any work along the gas pipeline route, individuals should contact the THINK Gas emergency number 1800-572-7105 and seek coordination from relevant departments, such as Public Works Department (PWD) and Water and Sewerage, to collaborate with the concerned companies before any digging, whether by hand or using machinery like JCBs.

The meeting also highlighted the need to maintain an updated list of emergency contacts and helpline numbers to be activated during crises. Continued support from the local administration was sought to ensure the security and integrity of natural gas pipelines across the district, particularly in vulnerable areas.

The safety and regular monitoring of gas pipelines under the Ludhiana district were discussed, focusing on minimizing risks and ensuring continuous integrity checks. The necessity of increasing awareness among all stakeholders, including local communities, industries, and the public, was emphasized. Educating these groups about the risks and their roles during emergencies is vital for collective safety. The meeting also addressed the need for a ready reckoner of emergency vehicles available in the district. A list of such vehicles will be maintained to ensure all stakeholders are aware of their availability. Officials stressed the importance of installing GPS devices on all JCBs to monitor their movement and avoid any uninformed or illegal excavations.

The session concluded under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, in the presence of ADC Rural Development Harjinder Singh, DDPO Navdeep Kaur, and DDF Ambar Bandopadhyay. The officials from THINK Gas and GAIL India expressed their gratitude to the local administration for supporting this important session. The officials from companies, including BSNL, JIO, Airtel, and VTL, participated in the meeting.
