17.57 Lakh MT paddy reach in markets, agencies procure 98% of the total arrived paddy
Ludhiana, November 11, 2021: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Thursday said that the district administration has set a new benchmark by ensuring smooth and hassle free procurement and lifting of the paddy during the procurement season which set to conclude today.
Presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the procurement and lifting of the grains in the grain markets across the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi , the district administration was firmly committed for completing the procurement and lifting without any inconvenience to the farmers. He said that elaborate arrangements were made by the administration to facilitate the farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner categorically told the officers that there was zero tolerance from his side if there was any sort of delay in the payment of the farmers. He said that prompt payment to the farmers and lifting of the grains within 48 hours of procurement as per the policy of the state government must be ensured at every cost.
The Deputy Commissioner said that about 17.53 lakh metric tons of paddy was expected in the grain markets of the district during this procurement season. He said that since the starting of procurement of grains in the district from October 3 in the state, 17.57 lakh metric ton paddy was into the grain markets out of which 98 percent has been procured by various agencies till November 10.
He said that out of payments worth Rs 3073.65 crore had been paid to the farmers for their produce.
