Ludhiana, May 12, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik on Friday said that the district administration had set a new benchmark by ensuring smooth and hassle-free procurement and lifting of the wheat during the procurement season.
Reviewing the progress of the procurement and lifting of the wheat in the grain markets across the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the district administration was firmly committed to completing the procurement and lifting the golden grains without any inconvenience to the farmers. She said that elaborate arrangements were made by the administration to facilitate the farmers.
Malik categorically told the officers that there was zero tolerance from her side if there was any sort of delay in the payment of the farmers. She said that prompt payment to the farmers and lifting of the grains within 48 hours of procurement as per the policy of the state government was ensured at every cost.
The Deputy Commissioner said that out of the arrival of 808319-MT wheat, 808251 metric tons (MT) was already procured by various agencies from the grain markets. A total of 757609-MT wheat was also lifted. He said that payments worth Rs 1700.7 crore had also been paid to the farmers for their produce.
