Administration to organize marathon on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking- Surabhi Malik
DC fixes duties of several departments for smooth conduct of function
Ludhiana, June 16, 2023: The district administration will observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in an unsurpassed manner on June 26.
Chairing a meeting to finalize the arrangements with heads of various departments on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik said that a marathon would be organized in campus of Punjab Agricultural University on June 26. She said that function was aimed to create awareness among the public about the drug abuse and availability of medical treatment in the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres run by the government.
Malik ordered the officials of health, sports, police, PAU, Public Health, Verka, Markfed, Punjab Mandi Board to make sincere efforts for smooth holding of the function. She said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had already waged a war against drugs and now the support of the people was required to check the demand for drugs, by supporting the movement. She added that drug addicts must be persuaded to get them treated so that they could become an asset for the state.
Deputy Commissioner said that these centres were changing the lives of drug-dependent youths as the treatment is being offered here is helping them to get rid of the drugs. She said that with the Punjab Government has been creating awareness about the drug menace owing to which, a large number of youths are shunning the menace and visiting the centres for the treatment.
Prominent among present in the meeting included ADC Khanna Paramvir Singh and heads of various departments.
