While giving information, she said that dengue is a viral fever, which is caused by dengue virus. She said dengue is spread by the bite of a female Aedes mosquito, which is infected with the dengue virus.
She said that Aedes mosquito is black in color with white stripes on its legs and body and also called Tiger Mosquito.
Civil surgeon Kapurthala, Dr. Rajwinder Kaur said that the larva of Aedes mosquito is found in clear standing water.
She said that open tanks on roofs, tyres, water storage drums, coolers, defrost trays of refrigrators, pots, bottles with money plants, junk material (empty coconut shells, empty bottles of water or cold drinks, plastic waste etc.) and other places where standing water etc. are the main sources of breeding of Aedes mosquito larvae. She explained the importance of "Har Shukwar Dengu Te Vaar" and said that the adult Aedes mosquito is produced in a 4-5 days from the egg. This adult mosquito hides in dark cool places inside the houses like behind curtains, corners of walls, behind cupboards. For this reason, every week on Friday, cleaning should be done around the house and the places where larvae are found should be cleaned.
She said that the female Aedes mosquito bites early morning and late evening. Therefore, clothes that cover the body completely even during the day. Apply or use mosquito repellent creams.
Giving information about the symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever, Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajwinder Kaur said that symptoms are as under: severe pain in the stomach, coldness and yellowness of the skin.
Giving information regarding prevention, Deputy Mass Media Officer Sharandeep Singh, Sukhdayal Singh, BCC Coordinator Jyoti Anand and BEE Ravinder Jassal jointly said that keep the containers filled with water well covered and keep the tank covers on. Scrub the coolers thoroughly before filling them with water. Do not allow water to stand in the disposal trays, money plant bottles, pots for long days and clean once every week.
