AFTER VEGANS TIME FOR NON-VEGETARIANS TO BE ON GUARD: PANNU
Chandigarh, October 4, 2018: The Food Safety Team, Kapurthala in a one of its kind catch came across a case of misleading packaging of boneless chicken breast, informed Mr.KS Pannu, Commissioner Food Safety Punjab. Giving details he informed that during an early morning check, around 6.15 am the officers of Food Safety Team, Kapurthala along with Deputy Director Dairy department, intercepted a vehicle (no. PB 02 CR 3834) carrying food articles from Perfect Poultry Products Pvt Ltd, Ajnala Road, Amritsar. The vehicle from Amritsar en route Ludhiana was intercepted at Dhilwan containing "Chicken Breast Boneless" Frozen in polythene packing of 2 kg each. The net content was about 1740 Kgs bearing label as “Manufactured & Packed by Meat Masters, Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Village Dugri, Ludhiana.” The further probe of the invoice revealed the buyer of the " Chicken breast Boneless Frozen " was also " Meat Masters, Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Vill. Dugri, Ludhiana”, causing the team to probe as to how the packets bore the name of the buyer instead of the seller. According to the invoice details the bill was issued by Perfect Poultry Products Pvt Ltd, Village Vichowa , Ajnala Road, Amritsar. The manufacturer and buyer of a product were the same as per label of packets and the invoice, which is a clear indication that some kind of mislabelling to befool the customers was intended, said Pannu. He said that true intent is yet obscure but Commissionerate will probe into the details but it is evident that after mislabelling of oil and ghee, this is a pointer towards a need for enquiry into the non-vegetarian food items as well.
