Agitators resort to “gandhigiri” for commissioning of Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express


Ex-Cabinet Minister and President of Kisan and Mazdoor Cell of PPCC, Jathedar Inderjit Singh Zira along with others submits a memorandum to DRM, Ferozepur on Friday.

Ferozepur, November 7, 2014: Youth Congress, NSUI, Youth PPP and AAP, Ferozepur’s protest against the railway authorities for commissioning of Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express entered its 11th day today. Ex-Cabinet Minister and President of Kisan and Mazdoor Cell of PPCC, Jathedar Inderjit Singh Zira today joined the agitation to extend his full support to the agitation. The Youth Congress workers also burnt the effigies of CM Parkash Singh Badal and Sadanand Gowda, Central Railway Minister.

The agitators also resorted to “Gandhigiri” and offered flowers to Naresh Chander Goyal, Divisional Railway Manager, Ferozepur while giving him memorandum.

Kulbir Singh Zira, President, Youth Congress, Khadoor Sahib alleged that the state government has failed to make any effort for the commissioning of this important train for the residents of this border area. He alleged that CM Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal are not letting the project take off. 

Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, General Secretary, Youth Congress said that they shall invite the leaders of BJP and SAD and shall ask them to join the dharna. He warned if the Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express does not start chugging before 30th November, their agitation would be intensified.

The agitation for the Ferozepur-Chandigarh train, which had started on 27th last month, has garnered generous support from people of all walks of life.

Earlier Capt. Amarinder Singh, Member of Parliament from Amritsar had also condemned Badals for not making special efforts for the Ferozepur-Chandigarh train.

On this occasion, Harpal Singh Tibbi, President, NSUI, Lakhwinder Singh, Dr. Rashpal Singh, Anwar Hussain, Vice Chairman, Kissan Mazdoor Cell of PPCC, Angrej Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Makhan Singh and others were present to support the agitation.

Earlier while addressing the media persons during a press conference, Inderjit Singh Zira slammed SAD-BJP alliance for their alleged anti-farmer policies. Zira said that he shall continue to protest to protect the rights of the farmers in the future. He said he is not afraid of the fake FIRs lodged against him. He is fighting for the farmers and he always will.

He said due to policies of SAD-BJP alliance, the farmers of the state are not getting their due and committing suicides. He blamed that the Parkash Singh Badal led alliance did not utilise the funds released by the Manmohan Singh led UPA government. He said due to their poor policies, Narinder Modi led NDA government has not released the payment of farmers worth Rs.1500 crore. He said nobody is concerned that how these poor farmers shall survive. He said he shall continue his protests in the entire state for the welfare of farmers in the upcoming days.

It is pertinent to mention here that Zira was booked along with other congressmen after his protest against state government for tardy procurement at Harike Headwork’s on 11th October.
