Agricultural Information Centre set up in Village Pabbian

Ludhiana: Keeping in view the importance of scientific information for successful farming, the Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has set up an agricultural information centre in the village Pabbian. The centre, which has been set up under the guidance of Directorate of Extension Education, aims at disseminating recommended agricultural information to the rural populace. Different agri-models along with PAU farm literature were exhibited at the centre to acquaint the rural community with various PAU developed technologies.

Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, discussed the importance of information centre in strengthening research-extension linkages. He also advised the farmers to adopt integrated nutritional garden for the cultivation of vegetables and pulses to meet domestic requirement.

Dr Dharminder Singh, Senior Extension Scientist, urged the farmers to adopt water saving technologies and use recommended doses of fertilizers and pesticides for sustainable agriculture.

Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, a PAU expert, informed about various training courses organized by the College of Community Science for the benefit of farm women. She urged the women to become financially independent by starting their own enterprises.

Officials from the State Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare threw light on different schemes being provided by the department for the welfare of the farmers. They impressed upon the farmers to go for cultivation of recommended varieties of various crops.
