Ahuja enumerates requisite qualities of efficient academic administrator

Amritsar, February 4, 2015: A "Workshop for Heads/Incoming Heads of the Departments & Deans of faculties on Administration, New Schemes on Higher Education and Research Grants" was inaugurated at the Academic Staff College of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 28 Heads/Incoming Heads/Deans of faculties from various teaching Departments of University and Regional Campuses are participating.

Paramveer Singh Ahuja, former Director General, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi was the Chief Guest. Dr.Ahuja in his inaugural address enumerated the requisite qualities of an efficient academic administrator.

Exhorting them to imbibe and follow these qualities in their day to day activities, he said that their visionary, dynamic leadership played a significant role in bringing laurels to any institute. He also threw light on the significance of the SWOT analysis, which, in his view, is one of the definite ways towards excellence in any field.

Asking them to get their act together to make Guru Nanak Dev University one of the reputed educational institutes in the world, he underscored that all the faculties needed to work with diligence, dedication, devotion in their respective fields. The society at large has huge expectations from the teachers of higher education, he emphasized. Teaching needs to be taken not as a means to make both ends meet, but as a passion especially in the modern times, he concluded.

Paramjit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, GNDU, Amritsar and Coordinator of the Workshop briefed the participants about the thrust area of the Workshop. He also talked about the functions, duties of the Heads of the Departments in the University structure. Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Director, Academic Staff College formally introduced the Chief Guest to the audience. Earlier the Chief Guest was accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Prof. Paramjit Singh and Dr. Mohan Kumar. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
