AICTE-Sponsored Faculty Development Program on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Commences at Panjab University
The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, organised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), began today at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The program is aimed to equip faculty members with essential tools and insights to foster entrepreneurial thinking and innovation in academic and research ecosystems.

Chandigarh, April 21, 2025: The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, organised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), began today at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The program is aimed to equip faculty members with essential tools and insights to foster entrepreneurial thinking and innovation in academic and research ecosystems.
As many as 37 participants from 28 distinguished institutions, including Panjab University, Chitkara University, MATS University Raipur, Government College of Education Patiala, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University New Delhi, and Dev Samaj College for Women Chandigarh joined the first day of the program.
Addressing the faculty members, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig emphasised on the vital role of mentorship and educator-led initiatives in nurturing entrepreneurship. She encouraged faculty to create programs that inspire and empower students and researchers to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. Prof. Vig also highlighted the active efforts of government organizations in creating structured platforms where industry leaders can guide aspiring entrepreneurs toward tangible success.
Earlier, the day opened with an insightful keynote address by Chairman and CEO of Punjab Angels Network Sahil Makkar. Makkar provided a comprehensive overview of entrepreneurship fundamentals, highlighting the key differences between startups and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He also outlined the crucial departments and business functions necessary for the success and sustainability of any entrepreneurial venture.
In his address, Er. Ankush Gawri from AICTE, stressed on the importance of maximising value from the program. He urged faculty participants to fully engage with the expert-led discussions and extract actionable insights, so they can effectively transmit this knowledge to their students and academic peers.
Prof. Manu Sharma, Professor at UIET and Coordinator of the DST-Technology Enabling Centre (DST-TEC) at Panjab University, delivered a thought-provoking session titled “Falling in Love with Problems.” Prof. Sharma highlighted the need for researcher-entrepreneurs to not shy away from problems but rather embrace them at every stage of business and innovation.
He illustrated this mindset with global examples, as well as stories of Panjab University students who have turned industry pain points into successful, practical solutions.
The concluding session of the day was led by Prof. Suveera Gill, Honourary Director of the Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (CSDE), Panjab University. Prof. Gill underlined the indispensable role of creative thinking in effective problem-solving. Through a series of engaging and participative exercises, she demonstrated how deep thinking, self-reflection, and creative exploration are vital for navigating and resolving both expected and unforeseen challenges in entrepreneurial and professional journeys.
The first day of the FDP wrapped up on a high note, with participants energised and equipped with fresh perspectives on entrepreneurship, creativity, and problem-solving. The program will continue throughout the week, featuring a rich lineup of expert-led sessions designed to empower educators to become catalysts for innovation and entrepreneurial growth.
