AISF to organize debate on new education policy

Ludhiana, August 21, 2019: The All India Students federation (AISF) will organize students in schools and colleges debate the new education policy by the GoI.

Under this programme, AISF organised a seminar at Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru Bhawan on the theme “New Education policy- Challenges Ahead”.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal (Retd) Tarsm Bahia told that the New Education Policy is a clear cut shift from public sector to private sector. In the post - independence period the schools were opened in the government sector. As a result the poorest and marginalized sections of the society could get education. This helped the development of society in which every section of the society contributed. But now the government has taken its hands off the responsibility for education. There is clear cut shift to privatization and corporatization. Already there is huge gap in the schools in terms of quality of education.

He said the new policy will further deprive the poor section of society to get education as the cost will increase exorbitantly particularly in the case of higher education. He also said that at present there are 40000 colleges and 900 universities in India where as new education policy proposes to reduce the number of colleges to 12000.

Veteran educationist and former general secretary of government school teachers union Charan Singh Sarabha warned that new education policy is going to encourage the commercialization of education. It is completely against the Common Education System which is the need for inclusive education for all sections of society.

Dr.Arun Mitra said that the new education policy is being framed and implemented only to serve the purpose of advancing and assisting the corporate sector.

AISF girls’ wing leader Karamveer Kaur Badhni called upon the students to unite and build a powerful movement against this policy and ensure that the education be for all instead of being in the reach of only privileged section. The girls wing of AISF has also been activated she said as girls are first to bear the brunt of such changes. Deepak Kashyap Secretary of District unit of AISF said that they would contact students in the ongoing session.
