Ludhiana, April 14, 2017: The meeting of state committee of Punjab of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was held under the presidentship of Com Bant Brar in which report on the current situation was presented by General Secretary Com Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal.
After the discussion a statement in which the lathi charge on the students at Panjab University Chandigarh was condemned and it has been demanded to punish the police officials responsible for this. Condemning the Modi government as Chandigarh administration under the central government it is very much clear that as it was done in JNU on the same lines cases of sedition have been framed against the students though taken back after some time. This is a clear cut warning to the people who fight for their rights and attack on democratic rights of the people.
The meeting also criticised the central government for proposed changes in the labour laws in favour of the corporate sector and against the workers at large.
It was further decided to observe 1st May, the labour day to oppose the proposed amendment in the labour laws and to save democratic rights of the people.
Those who attended the meeting included Com D P Maur, Vijay Kumar, Adv O P Mehta, Sukhdev Sharma, Kameshwar Yadav, Jaipal Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Com Ghambir, Gulzar Goria, Jagdish Chahal and Amarjit Asal among others.
