AJIT CHOWK: Becomes “accident prone” Area

Jalandhar, November 14, 2012: Ajit Chowk, previously known as Madan Flour Mill Chowk is always posing a threat for the drivers of four wheelers, three wheelers, and two wheelers who come from Partap Bagh and move ahead towards Railway Station, SD College Road, and Ladowali Road.

It has been observed that heavy vehicles such as trucks are parked near to this chowk or adjoining the divider. This kind of parking interrupt visibility for the vehicle owners who were to take turn from Ladowali Road side as the parked trucks makes “zero vision” from the opposite side.

Further, it has been noticed that accidents use to take place due to parking of trucks at the place. It is really strange that even though police personnel are seen posted at chowk but they never avoid parking near to chowk and central verge of the road to avoid any mishap.

There is also a need to construct speed breakers on the road.

Diwan Chand Mohindru, a resident of Mohalla Krishan Nagar, adjoining to this chowk, expressed concerned over the situation. He asked why the local administration was not taking appropriate action for the safety of people.

Besides, Amit Aggarwal, a resident of Mohalla Gobindgarh, said it was always a threat for vehicle owners to pass on this road.

Another city resident, Surinder Ahulwalia said this particular chowk had now become “accident prone” area and it needed immediate attention of the Jalandhar Traffic Police.

There has been a growing demand that Jalandhar Police Commissioner Gaurav Yadav, Jalandhar Mayor Sunil Jyoti and former Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia should intervene and taken an appropriate measure.
