Dharamshala, May 3, 2016: Anurag Thakur, Hamirpur MP and BJYM President spoke on the demand for grants for the ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment today in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Speaking in the house, Thakur said, "For the first time under the leadership of our Prime Minister, Sh.Narendra Modi, we have ministers, who listen and fastrack MPs request for disability camps in their constituencies. I am very glad and thank the minister to approve our request for conducting disability camps for distributing physical, hearing and blind aids in all the constituencies of my Hamirpur constituency!"
Under the Assistance to Disable Persons (ADIP) scheme - physical aids like tricycles, wheelchairs, BTE Hearing Aid, Blind Cane, Calipers, Crutches, Senior Citizens Walking Stick, prosthetic limbs etc are provided for free or subsidized prices to the disabled by the Central government. Sh. Anurag further said, "The ministry has already written to the State, District Collector as well as the distributing partner, ALIMCO and soon assessment camps would be set across my constituency. I strongly encourage my constituents to visit these assessment camps and get themselves enrolled for receiving the aids"
Sh. Anurag said, "Madam Speaker, the government intends to continue helping the vulnerable strata under the jurisdiction of the ministry. I am happy to see that a total of 7350 crores have been set for the ministry for FY 16-17. Allocation for Aids and Appliances for differently-abled people has also been increased to Rs 117 crore."
Sh. Thakur said that the ministry has so far conducted close to 110 camps across India - quite an achievement in just 2 years in power.
