All powers of Syndicate delegated to PU Vice Chancellor by Senate in its today’s meeting

Chandigarh, February 13, 2022: The meeting of the Senate started with the appreciation of the recognition of the two Panjab University alumni namely Prof. H.S. Bedi and Dr. Jitender Kumar Bajaj for being named by GOI for the Padam Shree award by Prof. Raj Kumar Vice Chancellor PU. He also congratulated various faculty members who got different grants from different agencies in the last one month.
 
Panjab University (PU) Senate today authorized the Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar to exercise all the powers of the Syndicate till the Syndicate actually comes into place. This was unanimously resolved by the house and was supported by a large majority of members including some senior fellows like Prof. Kuldeep Angnihotri. Sh. Satya Pal Jain and Prof. H.S. Bedi.
 
Prof. S.K. Tomar, DUI appraised all the members about the upcoming due visit of NAAC Committee and the issue regarding SSR. He stated that the University has to constitute nine different policies before the NAAC visit to meet one of the important criteria. These policies includes: Research Policy; Incubation & Start-up Policy; Information &technology (IT Policy); Policy for Maintenance & Utilization, Physical & academic sports Facilities (Laboratory, Library, sports Complex, Computer Class rooms etc.); Policy of Resource Mobilization; Policy on Gender Equity & Annual Gender sensitization; Policy of Code Conduct; Policy of waste Management; Policy of Green Campus & Environment audit. During the deliberation of the meeting it was decided to authorize the Vice-Chancellor to constitute any such committee  which may frame these policies as early as possible so that they can be debated and discussed for the final approval and implementation in the best academic interest of university at his level. 
 
The senate meeting held online today was attended by around sixty members. Vice Chancellor has been authorized to constitute committees and subcommittees in order to frame different policies so that Self Study report (SSR) may be filled at the earliest in regard to next cycle of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) visit of Panjab University.  This will help to secure better score of NAAC. The senate has also authorized all powers of the syndicate till the syndicate is formed for this year. This will facilitate the vice chancellor and other officials to work for the growth and improving the academics and overall environment of the university. Several hurdles of the university and its affiliated colleges will be removed at the earliest.  The Vice Chancellor has also been authorized to convene Board of Finance (BOF) by including special invitees from the present senate in addition to the ex-officio members of Board of Finance so that the University system functions without any hurdle and interruption after the close of this financial year on March 31, 2022.
 
The Senate approved the recent appointments of Prof. S.K. Tomar as Dean University Instructions (DUI). Prof. Renu Vig as Dean Research and Prof. Jagtar Singh as Dean Student Welfare (M).
 
The agenda item regarding implementation of the roster was discussed and deliberated as per opinions tendered by some respected Fellows in regards to code of conduct while election process is underway in the state of Punjab and the matter being sub-judice in Supreme Court and it was resolved that the Vice Chancellor is authorized to constitute a Committee to look into this matter holistically and to be brought with complete details. 
 
All these deliberations were followed by the zero hour where a number of issues were  raised by various fellows.
