He said that due to the high water level, it was becoming difficult to evacuate people through boats. In view of this situation, the district administration immediately contacted the Indian Army and Air Force. He said that with immediate effect the army sent teams from Mamoon Cantt to Indora and from Yol Cantt to Fatehpur on the spot. At the same time, MI-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force have been deployed to airlift people. The Deputy Commissioner said that now people are being evacuated with the help of Army, Air Force and NDRF.
He informed that temporary helipads have been made at Fatehpur's Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Stadium and Dhamtal to airlift people. He informed that relief camps have been set up nearby for the people being airlifted through choppers. At the same time, a relief camp has been set up by the administration in Badhukhar for the people being rescued through boats.
The Deputy Commissioner said that in view of the possibility of rising water level in Pong, an NDRF team was already deployed at Kathgarh temple. He said that this team was also sent to Indora with immediate effect and another NDRF team was sent to Fatehpur. The Deputy Commissioner said that relief and rescue work is going on in both the areas on a war footing and the administration is making efforts to evacuate every person safely.
On the other hand, since last night Pang Dhand Management has started releasing more water as water is being released from Kullu to Pandoh Dam and due to incessant rains in Kangra and Mandi districts, the water level in Pong Dam has reached the dangerous level. The reason has been continuous release of water, due to which the water in the lower areas of Pang dam has also remained above the road bridges.
The BBMB release said that due to very heavy inflows into Pong Dam Reservoir an emergency situation has arisen.
