Chandigarh:
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh today slammed the Amarinder Singh government for its delayed implementation of the Citizens' (Amendment) Act,2019 to enable the Sikhs and the Hindus coming from Afghanistan and Pakistan to become citizens of the country.

In a statement here today he lambasted the Congress and the chief minister for having opposed the law earlier. " The chief minister was speaking the language of the Gandhi family and now he has made an unscrupulous volte-face. He had no concern for the Sikhs, Hindus, Christians suffering the torture in Pakistan and Afghanistan which was so inhuman because he was blinded by the bhakti of the Gandhi family".

"The Congress government is Punjab kept sitting on the implementation of the law because of which hundreds of migrants remained deprived of benefits provided by the Central government", Chugh said adding that "it was painful to see that they could not even get themselves vaccinated during these horrid times because the Amarinder government did not provide them citizenship".

He said more than 400 Sikh families coming from Afghanistan and Pakistan have been languishing in Punjab for the last almost a decade. "The CAA, 2019, which the Congress kept opposing, could have become boon for them earlier", he said.

"But now when the elections are around the corner the Congress government has started granting citizenship to them in Punjab for purely political reasons", Chugh said adding that it was a matter of shame that the Amarinder Singh government was playing politics on such a humanly sensitive issue.
