Amid corona virus pandemic 65% distribution of free wheat and pulses completed in Ferozepur district: DC
More than 94,000 families out of total 1.45 lakh smart card holder families received the benefit so far
Ferozepur: Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Mr. Kulwant Singh said that amid the Corona Virus pandemic 65 percent distribution of free wheat and pulses has been completed in the Ferozepur district so far. He said that to provide major succor to the needy people during the curfew/lockdown a mammoth exercise to distribute free wheat and pulses to all smart card ration cardholders was initiated in the state on the directives of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. To ensure the hassle-free distribution Deputy Director Food and Civil Supplies Department Mr. Mangal Dass along with District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Mr. Pinder Singh visited the various ration depots and oversaw the distribution process.
Divulging further, Deputy Director Mr. Mangal Dass said that under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) 65 percent of the smart card holder families have been covered with the benefit of three months of food grains and pulses, which comprised of 94,053 beneficiaries in the district. He said that the department was on the verge of completing this drive to give relief to 1,45,212 eligible beneficiaries in the prevailing scenario due to the spread of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Mr. Pinder Singh said that in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic, the government had decided to give 5 kilograms of wheat per beneficiary per month for three months and one-kilogram pulses per family per month for three months. He said that free distribution of Wheat @ 15 Kg per member of family and Daal @ 3kg only for full family (irrespective of the number of family members) was being ensured by the depot holders of food and civil supplies department to all smart cardholders. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was committed to ensuring that no person, especially any poor family, suffers on account of the non-availability of food grains due to lockdown.
The teams of the department have been working round the clock to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food grains and pulses to the needy people adding the DFSC said that on Monday the depot holders along with food supplies inspectors distributed the ration at Purani Sabji Mandi and Multani gate areas and beneficiaries were provided with the 15Kilograms of wheat and 3 Kg (per family) pulses on the spot. The remaining beneficiaries would be covered within a few days, added Mr. Pinder Singh.
