AMIT KAUSHAL AND AHANA DECLARED THE BEST ATHLETES AT 18th ANNUAL SPORTS DAY ORGANISED AT DAVIET

Jalandhar, March 27, 2019: Amit Kaushal from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Ahana from Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering were declared the best athletes in Boys and Girls respectively at the 18th Annual Sports day of DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology, which was organised here today. It aimed to provide a platform to students to showcase their expertise in the sports arena.

Enthusiastic students and edge to edge competition among sportspersons to outperform each other to win the prizes on offer—made the Annual Sports Day of DAVIET, a memorable event. The animated students stormed into the enclosures much before the spectacle could commence on the grand field.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET declared the Sports Day open and highlighted that it is through participation in games and sports that students can inculcate the much desired trait of being disciplined which is of utmost importance if they want to make it big in life. Further he emphasised that it is physically fit students who are able to deliver well in academics as well. He also stated that the students who take active part in sports are life-long learners. He shared that the ground work for a sound interdisciplinary excellence can be laid in the sports arena as students can forge friendships across branches and can work in collaboration later on. He urged upon the sportsmen to give their best to outperform each other and play in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Mr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, Sports President, highlighted the fact that it is only mentally and physically fit citizens who can take the country forward. He emphasised that there is a positive change in the attitude of people towards sports in recent years as it provides a sense of relaxation in a life full of monotony of routine marked by miseries, hardships and hurdles. He stated that students should be inspired by Saina Nehewal, Sania Mirza, Virendra Singh, Sushil Kumar as they are the new age sports icons who have brought laurels to the country.

The arena thundered with applause as the day's events began with field events like 100 m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump, 4X100m, 4X400m relay race and Tug of War both in the category of men and women.

With spirits cooling down and physiques getting weary, the sports meet advanced towards its close with the Prize Distribution.
