Amit Shah assures Assam CM of extending all possible for tackling floods
Government remains committed to the people of Assam
New Delhi, June 25 (HS): Amit Shah, union Home Minister, had a quick conversation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on phone. Shah has promised him of all possible Central assistance in dealing with the state's flood crisis. Shah also stated that the Modi government remains committed to the people of Assam, as it has always done in difficult times.
People in areas of Assam are facing a flood-like scenario due to heavy rain. I have spoken with CM Shri @himantabiswa Ji and promised him of my full cooperation. He stated that NDRF troops are already on the ground performing relief and rescue operations, and that sufficient soldiers are on standby.
The flood situation in Assam remained dire on Sunday, with over four lakh people affected by the downpour across nine districts, even as water levels began to fall, according to an official.
According to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) official, three people have died in this year's first wave of floods in various sections of the state. According to an ASDMA report, the flood has affected about 4,07,700 people in the districts of Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, and Udalguri.
