Amity University Gurugram celebrated International Women’s Day in its campus today. A lecture on women's health issues by Dr. Pooja Sharma, MD Gynae, Medanta Hospital was organized by HR department and Amity Skill Institute and a lecture on special Women's rights in India by Maj. Gen. P.K Sharma (Retd.)- Director Amity Law School, poetry competition on the theme-Press for Progress and poster competition for the students of Fine Arts was organized in the campus. A self defense workshop was also organized for the university students by Sanshinkan Institute . In a two hour long self defense class the trainers taught the university students and faculty the basics of self defense techniques. Tug of War, Arm Wrestling, Dance, Drama, Songs and Bike Rally was also organised on the occasion of Women’s Day.
International Women's Day is defined as a day "celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women" and a "call to action for accelerating gender parity." It's celebrated all throughout the world, and it's not a centralized effort. Countries and organizations celebrate it as they see fit.
Prof (Dr.) P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Gurugram while speaking on the occasion said “Great day today to pledge our fullest of respect and reverence to the Divine Shakti, manifested to nurture Aatmiyata and Compassion in abundance.”
