She is the founder of the Brand, Black in Vogue which has introduced black bridal clothing line for the first time in the city and has set a buzz across the fashion world. Black has been a prohibited color for Indian weddings and this is the first time the stereotype gets broken glamorously.

Whether in Indian traditions or the western, when it comes to negativity and unlucky events, black is the color people go for. Whereas special events in the lives of Indians like a wedding feature bright and vibrant colors like red and Fuschia pink, black is definitely kept out of the league.
The Black in Vogue’s bridal collection was launched by a fashion designer of Kolkata, West Bengal named Kanchankuntala Das. The mastermind of this designer collection Kanchankuntala says, “Through this label, I wanted to break the stereotypes associated with black being the unlucky color. Black is a beautiful color and can be ideally used to carve wedding collections''.
Many of us like black as a color and we immensely prefer to wear black dresses but that is just for parties. When it comes to traditional rituals like weddings, a big NO for black still persists.
The designer says that the colour Black goes deeper into the roots of nature. When the world is talking about sustainable clothing goals and an eco-friendly garment industry, it would be a sheer injustice to keep the black color out of the league. Kanchankuntala wants to use fashion as a tool for bringing a renovation in the stereotypes harbored by people.
Black is always a color depicting class, grandeur, power, and elegance. But the typical color psychology that resides in the veins of Indian rituals forbids people from wearing black on lucky days. However, it is time to melt the ice of meaningless stereotypes and liberate the chained fashion sense in common people to wear what they want and flaunt new concepts.
Breaking the convention has to be the stepping stone for it. The designer has also imbibed the concept of body positivity and inclusivity by including models with various body shapes and skin tones to flaunt her collection.
To enhance the beauty of the designer lehenga pieces in this collection, intricate embroidery work has been used. It portrays the age-old Indian tradition of moti and tiki weaving. Apart from being an innovative and distinguished concept itself, Black in Vogue’s collection upholds the mesmerizing and rich legacy of Indian traditional handicrafts. Even the blouses are exclusively designed with Kasab Ari and Zari embroidery work.
The young designer promotes the cause of reviving and uplifting rural Indian textile handicrafts through her black bridal collection. Kanchankuntala says” We want to empower the rural Indian artisans to keep their art alive and contribute to the ever-blooming fashion world”.
