Annual Inter College Sports Meet gets underway at Nauni varsity

The 8th Annual Inter College Sports, Games, and Athletic Meet got underway at the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni. This three-day event, aimed at fostering holistic student development, has drawn enthusiastic participation from the four constituent colleges of the University. These include the College of Horticulture and College of Forestry from the main campus, as well as the Colleges of Horticulture and Forestry from Neri and Thunag.

The inaugural function saw UHF Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel gracing the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof Chandel emphasized the pivotal role of extracurricular activities in shaping well-rounded individuals. "Sports and other extracurricular pursuits are integral components of our university curriculum, contributing significantly to students' overall personality development," remarked Prof Chandel. He underscored the importance of sports in fostering discipline and enhancing endurance which are crucial attributes for success in life. Prof Chandel also highlighted the University's commitment to enhancing infrastructure to facilitate comprehensive student development.

Welcoming the Chief Guest and participants, Dr Rajesh Bhalla, Dean Students’ Welfare, emphasized the essence of sportsmanship in all competitions. He urged students to recognize the positive impact of sports on their lives, beyond the arena of competition.

The oath of sportsmanship was administered by Monu Patial, a third-year undergraduate student and last year's best sportsperson, setting the tone for the spirited competition ahead. The contingent from all four colleges showcased their discipline during the march past.

Over the next three days, students will engage in different track and field events. Track events will feature competitions in 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 5000, and 10000 meters races, along with team relays such as 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meters. Field events like Shot Put, Javelin, Discus throw, long jump, high jump, and triple jump will also be held. Additionally, teams will compete in Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Kabaddi, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Chess. The results of all the events will be added to declare the overall winners. 

Results

The sports meet kicked off with an intense Volleyball (Boys) match between COH&F Neri and COH&F Thunag. The former emerged victorious in a thrilling three-set encounter, securing the win with a scoreline of 18-25, 25-22, 26-24. Meanwhile, College of Horticulture triumphed over College of Forestry in a straight-set match, with a score of 25-13, 25-22. In Kabaddi action, College of Horticulture displayed dominance by defeating Neri with a commanding score of 55-35. Forestry College secured a hard-fought victory against Thunag with a score of 43-35. Turning to the High Jump event for girls, Bharti from College of Horticulture clinched the top position, showcasing exceptional athleticism. Manya from Forestry and Purnima from Neri secured the second and third positions, respectively. In the boys' category, Mridul from Forestry College claimed the first position in High Jump. Neri's Awesh Negi and Awishkar stood  second and third, respectively.
