Anti-ragging awareness day organised for PAU engineers

Ludhiana, July 25, 2023: The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAET), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an “Anti-Ragging Awareness Day” today.

The chief guest Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, emphasized on positive interaction between new entrants and seniors to create a healthy academic environment in the campus. He also stressed upon the role of seniors as mentors and advised the students to help their juniors to create a conducive environment at PAU which has a reputation of special care for their students inside the campus. Sharing hostel memories, Dr Jaura ensured the parents of the future students of the safety of their wards at PAU.

Dr HS Sidhu, Dean of the College, reminded the students of rich cultural legacy of extending a warm welcome to the freshers, and guiding them regarding new professional life and making them feel comfortable. He appealed to the students to maintain prestige of the College.

Dr Satish Kumar, Co-convener, while giving a power point presentation on “Curbing the menace of ragging,” made the students aware of what comes under ragging, anti-ragging guidelines and punishment thereof, as framed by UGC in the light of directions passed by the Supreme Court of India.

Dr Satish Gupta, Incharge Training and Placement Cell of the College, advised the students to not indulge in indiscipline and unfair means which can consequently debar them from representing the University and lead to penal action thereof.

Dr VP Sethi, Convener of Anti-Ragging Cell of COAET, welcomed the dignitaries, heads of the departments, faculty and students. He gave a brief introduction of activities to be organized by Anti-Ragging Committee of the College to make students aware of ragging and its consequences. Later, he proposed a vote of thanks.

During the programme, videos prepared by UGC on ragging were also played and undertaking Proforma on not to indulge in ragging were submitted by the students.
