‘Anukama 24’ presents creations by students of NIIFT Mohali, Ludhiana & Jalandhar
‘Anukama 2024’, the annual design collection show of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology(NIIFT) saw glamorous models of Mohali, Ludhiana and Jalandhar centres of NIIFT, take the stage by storm to showcase 51 hands-on beautiful collections created by the graduating fashion design students of the Institute. Each student presented five ensembles, which consisted of collections of garments based on pertinent themes.
Chandigarh, August 13, 2024: ‘Anukama 2024’, the annual design collection show of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology(NIIFT) saw glamorous models of Mohali, Ludhiana and Jalandhar centres of NIIFT, take the stage by storm to showcase 51 hands-on beautiful collections created by the graduating fashion design students of the Institute. Each student presented five ensembles, which consisted of collections of garments based on pertinent themes.
The Chief Guest at the event was Tejveer Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Industries & Commerce, Punjab and Chairman of NIIFT and the Guest of Honour was DPS Kharbanda, Secretary cum Director, Industries & Commerce, Punjab and Director General NIIFT.
"NIIFT has made Punjab proud. The students who pass out from here act as brand ambassadors for the state when they make a mark in their chosen jobs or by setting up start-ups not just in Punjab, but other parts of the country," said Tejveer Singh.
D P S Kharbanda said, “Students used the platform of Anukama’24 to present their signature styles. They put in their best which could be seen in the collections presented. The detail, originality and professionalism evident in their work are a testament of students’ hard work and perseverance.”
Both Tejveer Singh and D P S Kharbanda gave away awards to the promising students. A total of 12 awards were given to the deserving students of NIIFT centres on the basis of their performance. The 'Best Design Collection’ award went to Sirish Ranjan, Suruchi, Khushi Sharma & Anushka Kapoor. ‘Best Garment Construction’ award was bagged by Satwinder Singh and Siddhi. ‘Best Commercial Collection’ went to Nitish. ‘Most Creative Collection’ went to Vidhika Chugh, Sonali Bansal and Sukhmanjeet Kaur. ‘Best Use of Craft in Design’ was bagged by Shalini Thakur. ‘Best Use of Art in Design’ was earned by Sakshi Aggarwal and ‘Jury Special Award’ was given to Bhawna Thakur. ‘Best Usage of Pattern Making’ award was presented to Yashika Bajaj.
Dr. Kanu Thind, PCS, Director, NIIFT, said, "This was a celebration of the exceptional talent and creativity of NIIFT students. Our greatest joy comes from witnessing our students' growth, and today is a shining example of the extraordinary potential that resides within each of them.”
Dr. Simrita Singh, Principal NIIFT added, “From the moment we first glimpsed these designs, it was clear that a remarkable amount of passion, dedication, and skill had gone into every piece. Each collection tells a unique story and reflects not only the individual creativity of its creator but also the collective spirit of innovation that defines NIIFT.”
The collections were created by the students of 6th semester of NIIFT’s fashion design course over a period of 6 months under the mentorship of the design faculty of NIIFT and with help of industrial input and guidance. These students were guided by their Mentors- Dr. Simrita Singh, Dr. Poonam Aggarwal Thakur, Ms. Navdeep Kaur, Ms. Rajwinder Kaur, Ms. Navneet Suman, Mr. Harpreet Bhatia, Ms. Honey Sharma and Ms. Ruchi. An eminent jury evaluated the designer collections.
The collections presented ethnic, modern and traditional craft themes. The ensembles showcased sustainability through Indigo dyeing; Mizoram doll making craft; Indus valley terracotta; domestic waste; Pichwai art etc. The students of NIIFT also prepared a special collection to show zeal of patriotism on eve of Independence day through tricolor drapes.
"We feel proud that NIIFT students also walked the ramp, 45 female and 6 male models added the glam quotient to the students’ creations." Said Ms. Navdeep Kaur, Show Coordinator, Anukama 2024 & HOD, Fashion design department. Anukama 2024 was also choreographed by Navdeep Kaur.
It is noteworthy that NIIFT is an accredited, diverse, and expanding college of Fashion, Management and Technology established in 1995 and has grown to be one of India's premier institutes. NIIFT provides B.Sc, B.Voc and M.Sc. NIIFT is under the administrative control of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab.
