Anurag Thakur expresses gratitude to PM for approving NDRF Battalion for Himachal Pradesh
Dharamshala, August 10, 2018: In a bid to strengthen the Natural Disaster response in the State of Himachal Pradesh, Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur welcomed the Central Government’s step for approving National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) battalion in Himachal Pradesh. Commenting on the development, Thakur said, “The State of Himachal Pradesh is prone to various types of disasters causing destruction of life and property. I would like to thank Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs Sh. Rajnath Singh ji for taking cognizance of this and approving the NDRF battalion for the State.” “As per National Disaster Management Policy 2009, the primary responsibility to disaster lays with States. In 2010, during the regime of Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal led BJP Government the battalion was stationed in Nurpur, District Kangra. However, when Sh. Virbhadra Singh led Congress Government got into power, given to political vendetta, they did not pursue the case, rather acted as a roadblock in getting the same established. At the cost of the welfare of the public, Congress Government chose politics over safety of the people. Having said that, now with BJP Government both at the State & Center, will work cohesively towards ensuring safety and welfare of the people.” The Union Cabinet has given nod to four new battalions of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which will be based in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the national capital region, at an estimated cost of Rs 637 crore.
