Jalandhar: Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar is observing Healthy Body, Healthy Lifestyle Week from 15 June to 21st June 2021 to mark the International Yoga Day. This event is being coordinated by the NSS unit under the charge of Ms. Simkee Dev. Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of the college said that the pandemic has thrown into sharp focus the need for maintaining one's health. Keeping this in view, the NSS team devised a fitness programme that involved the teachers who are leading more sedentary lives because of online mode of teaching.
On day 1, the teachers took walking breaks where they walked around the campus during their free periods. On day 2, the teachers went to Jalandhar cantonment to enjoy the benefits of fresh air in the morning. They walked briskly for an hour before going to the work in the college. On day 3 the teachers participated in Antakshari competition. This programme targeted mind relaxation. Dr. Dhingra said that diverting mind towards creative pursuits helps to de-stress and rejuvenate the mind. The teachers formed four groups and even the principal joined in much to the delight of the teachers. On day 4 Zumba dance workshop was organised in collaboration with HDFC Bank. Aiming at fitness through dance, the Zumba workshop elicited enthusiastic participation by the teachers. On day 5 of the week long fitness programme, the teachers followed a balanced diet plan which aimed at inculcating the right food habits to ensure good nutrition. The principal congratulated Ms. Simkee Dev for the successful outcome of the healthy lifestyle week.
