Ludhiana, January 31, 2013: Patient Kashish, age 3 years, has been undergoing treatment in Pediatrics ICU of the hospital since December last year.

According to the treating doctor, Dr Jatinder Goraya (Pediatric Neurologist), the patient was diagnosed with the Landry Guillain-Barre Syndrome (LGBS), which is an uncommon syndrome that can be potentially life-threatening and affects one in 20,000 children. The fact that Kashish’s parents lost no time in reaching DMCH ensured that treatment began in time and she could be cured.

Once known as a rare disorder, off late, LGBS or Landry Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a very rapidly progressive disease of the nerves of the legs, arms etc, there has been an increase in the number of cases being reported especially among children, said Dr Goraya. During her stay in the hospital, the patient is on ventilator and other support systems in ICU

Her father, Sanjeev Kumar, does not have any stable source of income. The family has exhausted all the financial resources for the treatment of child and is making a fervent appeal to the people for lending monetary help to the patient’s family for his treatment.
