Appreciation for Sant Seechewal’s Efforts in Improving the Water Quality of Budda Darya

Ludhiana, April 7, 2025: In order to witness the improvements made in the water of Budda Darya, Panchayats from Malwa and other notable personalities visited the village of Bhukhri Khurd. The Panchayats from Aitiana, Chhajwali, and Dholanwali appreciated the efforts of Member of Rajya Sabha and environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal in improving the water quality of Budda Darya in Bhukhri Khurd. These Panchayats mentioned that the polluted and toxic water of Budda Darya was causing cancer and other dangerous diseases in Malwa and Rajasthan. Previously, all political parties had lost hope regarding the cleaning of Budda Darya. Meanwhile, the Bhukhri Khurd Panchayat extended an invitation to the Panchayats of Malwa to join the Baisakhi Mela at Budda Darya on April 13, after decades.

The Panchayats from Malwa expressed their hope that just as Sant Seechewal had set an example by cleaning the holy Kali Bein, which had faced much criticism from various factions at the time, similar results would be seen in Budda Darya. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the service workers, the water quality of the Kali Bein has improved over the past 25 years. Panchayats from Aitiana, Dholan, Chhajwali, Jangiana, and Rautan, including prominent leaders such as Sarpanch Daljit Singh, Sarpanch Gurmel Singh, Sarpanch Singara Singh, Sarpanch Swaranjit Singh, and Darshan Singh, were present for the visit. The Sarpanches of Malwa met with Sarpanch Satpal Singh of Bhukhri Khurd. The Sarpanch of Bhukhri Khurd invited the Panchayats of Malwa to take part in a ritual bath in Budda Darya during Baisakhi.

On this occasion, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal mentioned that the service to Budda Darya had been initiated in stages. The first phase began on February 2, 2024, with the planting of trees, during which paths were created along the banks of Budda Darya and trees were planted on a large scale. The second phase focuses on stopping the inflow of polluted water into the river. In the upstream area, there were 79 dairies, of which all but four or five have implemented waste management solutions. Sant Seechewal provided a detailed overview of the improvements being made to the water quality of Budda Darya to the visiting Panchayats from Malwa.
