Architects Celebrate World Architecture And Habitat Day

Ludhiana, October 02, 2017: City architects under the banner of The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) celebrated World Architecture Day and World Habitat Day. Both these days are observed on the first Monday of October every year. This year they coincided with the birthday of late Mahatma Gandhi.

World Architecture Day, was set up by the UIA back in 2005 to “remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat". The theme for 2017 is "Acting Against Climate Change". The UIA supports every initiatives following the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement to combat the impact of climate change on the environment and humanity.

World Habitat Day is observed annually throughout the world. It was officially designated by the United Nations and first celebrated in 1986. The purpose of the day is to reflect on the state of our cities and towns and the basic human right to adequate shelter. It also aims to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the habitat of future generations. The theme for 2017 is "Housing Policies: Affordable Homes".

Architect Sanjay Goel, Chairman IIA - Punjab Chapter who is also the Director of Ludhiana Smart City Ltd, shared his thoughts with architects about how they can act responsibly against climate change through their designed built environment. He further shared Modi Government's "Housing Policies : Affordable Homes" going on in India at a good pace. Punjab Government is also coming up with affordable homes. In India poor are not only getting cheap houses but subsidy too.

The celebrations were supported by architects of Ludhiana , Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda centers. The architects assured that they will always work for the welfare of humanity on all fronts through their long term designs and executions.
