Ludhiana, July 26, 2014: The Architecture and design (A&D) summit was organised at Ludhiana. The summit witnessed participation from interior fit-out manufactures, regional architects, interior designers, institute of architects and academicians.
Recognising the significance of the architecture practice in India, the summit aimed to bring together key stakeholders to deliberate on the current challenges through keynote presentation, multiple focused panel discussions. With the theme of “Tradition and Modernity in contemporary practice”, the conference was aimed to focus on hosting top level architects and design professional to deliberate the much needed transition required by the upcoming metro cities to create a unique identity and transform into a “Smart City” capable of sustaining the brisk population growth.
The summit was initiated with a welcome address by Rishi kapoor, Sector Head, Times Conference Limited. The opening address was given by Abhishek somany, Joint Managing Director, Somany ceramics. The opening Keynote was delivered by Sangeet Sharma, partner, SD Sharma & Associates on “Scope for infrastructural transition: Bridging the gap between traditional and modern architecture”. Other opinion leaders present on the occasion included Manjul Trehan, Sales Director India, Lutron, Kanav Khosla, Partner, Avinash Khosla Associates, Surinder Bahga, Chairman, Publication Board, Indian Institute of Architecture, India, Sanjay Goel, Chairman, Indian Institute of Architects Ludhiana Centre and many more.
The Architecture & Design Summit 2014 focused mainly conceptualizing the unique global cities of india-the role of the Local Government and regional stake holders with developing architecture concepts and new urban identity.
The Panel discussion deliberated on the following issues:
•    The vision of the new government, the stand point of city planners and developers in creating unique identity of each city.
•    The role of the regional architectural associations in bringing modernity to traditional practice.
•    The way builder fraternity is gearing up in Ludhiana to embrace tradition and modernity in their structure .
•    The possible avenues between architects and the government to drive the tradition between modernity and heritage.
The main aim of this initiative was to channel global business intelligence through summits and conferences in overreaching lectures, workshops, panels, roundtables and case studies. The forums would ensure that senior decision makers are equipped with information to respond to challenges they face not just in India but also globally.
