Chandigarh, Oct 18 (IANS) Exercise Vajra Sahayata, a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear disaster management exercise, was conducted by Vajra Corps under the aegis of Western Command headquarters in Punjab's Jalandhar city.
A tabletop exercise was conducted from October 16 to 17, wherein the participating units from the army, representatives of 7th and 13th NDRF battalions, the SDRF battalion and Punjab civil administration deliberated the role, responsibilities, present and future capability development of all stakeholders.
Dynamic situations for radiological and biological disaster scenarios were discussed and the response and actions by all stakeholders were validated, the Defence Wing said in a statement on Wednesday.
Various teams of the Indian Army were mobilised as 'second responders' to a chemical gas leak based on requisition by the state administration and deployed to mitigate the disaster.
The exercise provided an opportunity to the Indian Army to showcase its reaction and mitigation mechanism.
