Ferozepur, March 25, 2013: The passengers are compelled to travel on the roofs of the trains but to stop this action, neither the railway officer is coming forward to comment nor the railway protection force is restricting the passengers to board on the roof of the trains.  In the past, numbers of passengers have lost of their lives by traveling on the roof of the trains.

In fact, during the holidays and the ‘Bhandara’ celebrations at Beas where the people in thousands from Ferzepur-Fazilka border belt travel by train, are left with no alternative to travel on the roofs of the trains, despite strict ban.

While talking to one of the passenger visiting Beas not to travel like this, he said, since we have to attend congregation at Beas, the Railways should arrange extra bogies or special trains during these days. The people are so lunatic that they don’t bother about its consequences. But he admitted that there is a need to educate the people that the life is more important.

The NGOs have demanded from the railway authorities to make appropriate arrangements of force to stop people boarding on the roofs of the trains to avoid any untoward incidents.

On contacting the Railway officials, he said, in view of rush of passengers throughout the India during the holidays after the annual exams are over, it is very difficult to increase the bogies and arrange extra trains.  The people should cooperate with the Railways to make their programmes accordingly and should not take risk by travelling on the roofs of the trains and without reservation on the long routes.
