ARROW 2017-18 A QUIZ ON ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS LAUNCHED

Ludhiana, October 25, 2017: Asha Chinh, a local NGO in association with Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater, launched a series of Quiz competitions ARROW 2017-18 on road safety awareness. The first quiz in the series was held today at SCD Govt College, Ludhiana.
Dr.Rajinder Chawla, Chairman of ASHA CHINH, who lost his son Aaftaab Chawla in a road accident in 2015, set aside his personal pain and anguish to steer the drive for safety of younger generation. ARROW 2017-18 quiz competitions will be held in a number of colleges and schools in the district culminating in an Inter-college and Inter-school finale next year. Prior to the Quiz, a presentation by Dr.Chawla showed the human side of road accidents and how they affect the families of the victims. Videos of CCTV footage of road accidents were played to apprise the students of the gravity of irresponsible behaviour on the road. Students were enouraged to take a pledge to respect the traffic rules for keeping themselves and others safe on the roads.
Students and faculty participated enthusiastically in Quiz Competition aimed at awareness raising strategies. Four teams of undergraduate students of the college were shortlisted after a screening of large number of participants. The quiz program comprised three rounds including multiple choice, True/False and Visual questions. A number of questions for the audience kept the students spell bound. Tejas and Kamal from team ‘Positive’ were declared winners, while Raghav and Raghunandan from team ‘Responsible’ were the runners up. Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners by the chief guest, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mr. Gurdev Singh and Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu, Principal SCD Govt. College. While speaking on the occasion, the ACP applauded the efforts of ASHA CHINH and Rotary Club in taking the initiative to spread the awareness about road safety among the youth of the city. He invited the youth to get in touch with the traffic commissionerate through its website and public phones. Dr.Param Saini, President Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater co-ordinated the program and informed the audience that the next quiz will be held at Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce. She stressed upon the need for change in attitude to curb the rate of road accidents, which could be achieved only by making the youth enlightened. Others present on the occasion included Rtn Amanpreet Singh, Rtn Vikas Babbar, Rtn. Ashu Kapoor, Rtn Sunaina Jain and Rtn. Dr.Gurinder Thind.
