Chandigarh, April, 28, 2025: To explore effective parenting strategies, Dr Rashmi Pandove, a city based pediatric expert and Small Wonder School hosted a ‘Art of Parenting’ session here today. It was attended by parents, educators and child development experts.
The session was aimed to empower parents with tools and insights to nurture their children’s growth holistically.
The session delved into various parenting styles, emphasizing the benefits of the authoritative approach. This style combines warmth and responsiveness with clear boundaries and expectations, fostering independence and self-discipline in children. In contrast, authoritarian parenting, characterized by strict rules and limited flexibility, and permissive parenting, marked by leniency and minimal guidance, were discussed for their potential drawbacks.
Addressing the digital age’s challenges, the session highlighted the importance of regulated media consumption. Experts recommended limiting screen time for children aged 2 to 5 to one hour of high-quality programming daily, with parental involvement to enhance understanding and engagement. For older children, establishing media-free zones during meals and before bedtime was advised to promote better sleep and family interaction.
The session also underscored that a balanced diet supports brain development, strengthens the immune system, and contributes to overall well-being.
Parents were encouraged to provide a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, establishing healthy eating patterns early in life.
