Mumbai: Arvind Vijay Mohan applauded celebrated designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee while speaking on Day 2 of India Today Conclave Mumbai 2023 on October 5. Sabyasachi “has packaged the exotic appeal of India incredibly,” Arvind Vijay Mohan, who is the Chief Executive at Artery India and founder of India Art Investor, said.
“If I enter a room, I am not going to be the richest or best-looking or most charming. But I am definitely going to be the hungriest for the histories that are collectively residing in this room. There are so many fascinating stories that exist in a room. We need to be curious. Most of what I am able to share comes because of my curiosity. Everyone has a fascinating story to tell. It starts with asking a question – who, what, where, when, why and how. If we are able to understand that, we will be able to create a story. You should be able to tell a story in an arresting manner,” Arvind said, while speaking during his session titled 'The Power of a Story: Craft Your Narrative to Succeed.'
Recounting his journey, Arvind added, “You know I have always been a bit of a nerd. It comes from extreme shyness. I always read books. I wanted to know more about everything. It comes from a very simple word, curiosity. The need to know why.”
Speaking about his fascination for brands, Arvind added, “It's impossible not to be fascinated by brands. Every waking moment of our lives, we are surrounded by brands. Some of us even think of brands when we are sleeping. For me, the concept of a brand - it is interchangeable with that of a human being. Every brand is a human being and every human being is a brand. Human beings need to start off by understanding their brand attributes.”
On legacy brands, Arvind said, “A lot of legacy brands are trying to grapple with the idea of appealing to a younger audience, many of whom are not familiar with their history. They are trying to speak to them and that is playing out in many ways. They are speaking to them in a manner that could be relatable but it could be diluting their original essence. So, it is important to get a good balance of the two while maintaining the cultural significance of the brand.”
Speaking on the success stories of Indian brands, Arvind mentioned Sabyasachi. “I think Sabyasachi has done an incredible job. He has packaged the exotic appeal of India incredibly. It’s high time we had several brands which have a strong Indian DNA plant their flag all over the world. It’s very important for us to have a global perspective.”
Arvind Vijay Mohan also said that he loves going places and “from the minute that I had any amount of money in my hand, I started travelling.”
