Assembly Elections-2022: DC directs depositing of licensed weapons
Police and Excise to start Red Alert operation to check flow of illegal liquor
Nawanshahr, December 3, 2021: For the upcoming 2022 assembly elections in the state, Deputy Commissioner- cum- District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal asked the District Police to get all the licensed firearms deposited in their police station areas immediately.
Accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur, Deputy Commissioner said that the district has a total of 2637 license holders and has 3246 registered weapons.
He asked the police department to immediately order the SHOs to start the process immediately and issue the necessary directions to all weapon holders so that they can deposit their weapons from today now.
Further, he ordered the police and excise departments to start a ‘red alert' special operation to strictly curb the flow of illicit liquor. He asked them to hold joint checking nakas in the entire district to keep a hawk-eye on the menace and take strict action against the persons involved in the illicit liquor trade.
Deputy Commissioner told the officials to complete vulnerability mapping by next Friday. He also asked them to prepare an elaborate plan to facilitate Persons with Disability (PWD) voters by ensuring ramps, wheelchairs and other facilities at all the polling booths. Further, he told them to appoint volunteers to assist PWD voters.
Deputy Commissioner also asked the official to form flying squads, static surveillance teams, C-vigil teams, expenditure monitoring, MCC, video surveillance teams, accounting teams and others so that these teams can be moved to the field swiftly following the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct.
