ATTENTION LUDHIANA HOTEL OWNERS: Police Commissioner issues orders u/s 144 of CrPC

Ludhiana, November 5, 2012: Ludhiana Police Commissioner, Ishwar Singh has issued an order under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code (CR.P.C.), directing all the hotel owners across the Police Commissionerate Area, to maintain complete record of people visiting them for booking of rooms in their respective hotels.

The hotel owners have been asked to maintain complete record such as name, address, ID proof, Aadhar Card, driving licence and phone number.

All these details are to be maintained in the hotel registers.

Citing reasons for issuing this order, Police Commissioner said it has been observed that complete information is not sought by the hotel owners at the time of booking of room for the visitors. As a result, sometimes a few elements out of these people manage to escape after committing serious crimes. This also results in increase of incidents of crime.

Commissioner further says that it was, therefore, necessary that whenever a person asks for booking of a room in the hotel, the hotel owner should get complete details of the person concern in the larger interest of the public. This will facilitate the local police to make inquiries from person/s, if required, in the future.
