Author’s workshop on writing original textbooks in Punjabi language

Chandigarh, September 19, 2024: Author’s workshop on writing original textbooks in Punjabi language is a project of Bhartiya Bhasha Samvardhan Samiti (Punjabi) of University Grants Commission, to write original textbooks for graduate level examinations in Arts, Science and Commerce in regional Indian languages. Panjab University, Chandigarh has been selected as the nodal center for Punjabi language by UGC and the present workshop is being organized by Panjab University at its ICSSR seminar hall on 21-22 September.

Workshop will be inaugurated by Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor Panjab University On 21st September at 10 AM and will be presided by Professor Jagbir Singh, Chancellor Central University of Punjab Bathinda. The keynote address will be delivered by famous Punjabi thinker Amarjeet Grewal and special guest will be Director of Language Department Punjab, Jaswant Zafar.

Workshop Coordinator Prof. Gurpal Singh Sandhu said that the objective of this workshop is to develop knowledge in Punjabi. The authors selected for writing textbooks will write textbooks on subjects like Commerce, Chemistry, Physics etc. For this work, subject experts from various universities of India like Prof. R. C. Sobti, Prof I. D. Gaur, Prof. Ronki Ram, Prof. Priyatosh Sharma, Dr Rajiv Kumar, Dr. Manjinder Singh, will address the participants.
 

The valedictory session, on the second day of the workshop will be presided over by Prof. Rumina Sethi DUI, Panjab University and the Chief Guest will be prof.. Harmohinder Singh Bedi Chancellor Central University of Himachal Pradesh. The concluding speech of the workshop will be delivered by Prof. Sarbjit Singh and chief guest will be Swaranjit Savi Presidents of Punjabi Sahit, academy and Punjab Arts Council Chandigarh respectably.
 
Prof. Sandhu said that more than 70 teachers from different universities and colleges of Punjab will participate in this workshop and it is expected that all BBSS will publish fifty books in one year and around 200 books on different subjects of Arts, Science and Commerce will be published in the next four years. Text books will be prepared in Punjabi language and the entire expenditure on this project will be borne by University Grants Commission, Government of India. This is the first time that such a big project related to writing textbooks in Punjabi language has been undertaken and initiated without any financial support and planning from the Punjab Government.
