Awareness campaign on congenital heart defects marks V’Day

Zirakpur: On Valentine’s Day, Amcare Hospital, Zirakpur took an initiative to raise an awareness campaign on congenital heart defects (CHD).

Dr. Vishal Dublish, pediatrician at hospital said that congenital heart defect is a problem with the structure of the heart and is the most common type of birth defect. The signs include rapid breathing, bluish skin, fatigue and poor blood circulation. Due to so much advancement in medical science CHD children can have a better life expectancy now.

He further informed that the estimated number of children born with congenital heart disease in India is more than 2 lakh per year. Of these, about one-fifth are likely to have serious defects, requiring an intervention in the first year of life, he informed.

Dr Mohit Bhutani, cardiologist at Amcare said, “You never know when raising awareness could save a life and what could be a better opportunity to talk about it on a day which is associated with heart.”
